POLICY ON THE RELEASE OF ASHES
To comply with the Burial and Cremation Act 1964 and our operational policies, please note the requirements for collecting ashes:
- Primary Collection: We can only release ashes to the specific individual who signed the cremation application (usually a parent, partner, or child over 16).
- Authorizing Someone Else: If the person who signed the application wishes for another family member or friend to collect the ashes, they must provide us with explicit instructions to do so.
- Account Settlement: Ashes will be released once the final account is paid in full. This policy is discussed and agreed upon with the main contact before the invoice is finalized.
COLLECTING YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASHES
In accordance with the Burial and Cremation Act 1964, we are legally required to release your loved one's ashes only to the person who signed the cremation application. This is typically the executor of the will, parent, partner, or child over the age of 16.
If the person who signed the application would like someone else to collect the ashes on their behalf, they must provide us with clear authorization beforehand.
Additionally, please note that ashes can only be released once the account has been paid in full. This requirement is thoroughly discussed and agreed upon with the main contact prior to finalizing the invoice.
PAYMENT TERMS
A $1,000 deposit is required when we dress and prepare your loved one, and this amount is taken off your final invoice.
If the final invoice is paid in full within 7 days, we will take $400 off your account.
If you need to pay in instalments, please speak with us before the funeral, as payment plans must be agreed before the service and cannot be arranged afterwards.
Help with funeral costs may be available through Work and Income, ACC (if the death was caused by an accident) or Veterans' Affairs. The deceased's bank may also pay the funeral invoice directly from their account. We are happy to help you with any of these. If you have any questions, please call us on 09 527 1866 or email info@lagoonview.co.nz
