Work and Income Funeral Grant
Work and Income Funeral Grant
The Work and Income Funeral Grant is government financial assistance that helps families cover essential funeral costs in New Zealand. Eligible families may receive up to $2,616.12 to support expenses such as embalming, caskets, cremation or burial fees, hearse transport, compulsory cemetery costs, and newspaper notices. The Grant does not need to be repaid if all criteria are met, and is available to people who were ordinarily living in New Zealand at the time of their passing. To apply, families need to provide identification, a death certificate, and an itemised funeral account. This support can make a meaningful difference for those managing funeral costs during a difficult time, especially for whānau in Auckland and across Aotearoa.
